I just went to dooce.com and saw a banner ad with clickable options:

Have you voted yet?
- yes
- no
- I'm not sure.

HOW ARE YOU NOT SURE?!

I'm getting very tense the closer it gets to election time. I'm voting for Obama, in case you haven't ever had a conversation with me or seen my Facebook page or had the occasion to hear my dad talk about what he does when people send him right-wing propaganda email forwards. There are people arguing about voting on another forum I go to. It's all absentee ballots versus voting early and why the other side is dumb, and oh my God, people, JUST GET REGISTERED WHERE YOU LIVE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BOTHER DRIVING HOME. I'm driving home because it's not that long of a trek, but there were people ALL OVER CAMPUS following you around with change of address forms before the deadline - it wasn't like you had to drive anywhere to register in Orlando. God, someone even came into my class and passed out paperwork. IT ISN'T THAT HARD. COME ON. THEY WERE PRACTICALLY SCREAMING "WE WILL SUCK YOUR DICK IF YOU REGISTER IN ORLANDO." And you can change your address at the polls if you're registered! IT TAKES FIVE MINUTES. WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE AN ABSENTEE BALLOT AND RISK IT NOT BEING COUNTED? THERE ARE FREE SHUTTLES FROM CAMPUS TO THE POLLS. IT TAKES AN HOUR. IT'S VOTING. YOU DO IT EVERY FOUR YEARS. YOU CAN SPARE AN HOUR EVERY FOUR YEARS, PEOPLE. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! ARE YOU ALL SERIOUSLY THAT LAZY THAT YOU CAN'T TAKE A FREE SHUTTLE FROM A PLACE YOU'RE GOING TO BE ANYWAY TO SPEND ONE HOUR TO VOTE?!

I KNOW WHERE THE I'M NOT SURE OPTION CAME FROM. IT CAME FROM ALL MY FRIENDS WHO ARE VOTING VIA ABSENTEE BALLOT THAT COULD POTENTIALLY GET LOST WHEN THEY COULD SPARE A FUCKING HOUR TO GO VOTE VIA FREE SHUTTLE. JESUS MOTHERFUCKING CHRIST.

Not to mention, you can also go to the DMV to register.

Oops, I didn't mean to make it worse!

If people want to vote, they'll find a way to vote. It's just sad how apathetic so many people are.

It's every four years, goddammit!

I have one friend I know who isn't voting (last I heard) because he didn't know enough about the issues, nor does he intend on reading up on the issues, so he's just NOT GOING TO VOTE. (This is, at least, last I heard.)

After the 2000 election I was talking to a classmate and said I thought the results showed how important every vote is. His take was the opposite and that he would never vote again. I almost literally head desked.

Gggnauuuuuuguhhhhh.

Direct quote from a moron: None of our votes count, we aren't the electoral college.

Dummies.

I really enjoyed the progressive anger of this post.

I agree with you. And I registered. And I'm going to vote. And so is everyone I know. If that helps.

Have there been problems with absentee ballots getting lost in the past? I mean, I guess everything you mail has the potential to get lost, but I guess I never really thought about it in terms of absentee ballots. I'm feeling kind of ignorant right now...

Well, for one, it's the US Postal Service. I trust my own hands on the voting machines better than sending off stuff in the mail. They are also counted on Election Day and the deadline for counting is up to 10 days after Election Day in Florida. Plus, again, THIS IS FLORIDA. I want there to be no doubt about my vote.

Lol, "I'm not sure."

"Well, I walked into the voting place, but then everything kind of went dark..." XD

So yes I keep getting accosted by people on campus. Seriously if there is a single student who does not vote it is because they are lazy butts and deserve to be punched.

Though I do wish I knew a little more about the candidates for Clerk of Court... there are so many, and some of them don't have websites. AUGH WHY WOULD YOU RUN FOR OFFICE AND NOT HAVE A WEBSITE?! D:>

Seriously, though, overall, it's not hard.

Ohhhhh I could bodyslam those people. Absentee voting is a HUGE GIANT ENORMOUS PAIN IN THE ASS, and if there was anything else I could be doing I would JUMP ON IT. Luckily I'm voting in Illinois, land of Obama, so my vote is not going to swing any elections even if does get lost, but then again, it's Illinois, the land of the dead voters.

My ballot is going out tomorrow in the mail, thank goodness.

FREE SHUTTLES. FREE SHUTTLES. AND PEOPLE HANDING OUT CHANGE-OF-ADDRESS FORMS AND MAILING THEM OR BRINGING THEM TO THE WHEREVERS FOR YOU.

I bugged one of my friends MONTHS ago about voting and he said he was going home and voting and now it's all ABSENTEE BALLOT WHAT WHAT.

I don't see what the big deal is. Absentee ballots are always counted and there are more problems with votes at election sites.

Some people don't want to register in Orlando because of local elections, like me, or because they're going to have to register again in less than a year.

You act like Obama actually has a chance of losing.

David Sedaris recently wrote an article for The New Yorker criticizing people who were unsure of who to vote for at this stage in the election.

He likened it to being asked by a flight attendant if you would prefer to have chicken, or a pile of shit with broken glass in it.

I thought it was funny =).

I saw that on Dooce.com. It was a good comparison.

I voted Saturday for Obama. Now that I'm in the permanent poor people club, he has my vote.
