Thanks to Norton's (intellectually obese) Anthology, you can now relate to different literary stages or Ages incontext with the authors of each stage. For example when you think of the Romantic Age, a Romantic sage (Wordsworth), or Hippie (Coleridge) or a rebel (Shelley) or a rebel in a rake's disguise (Byron) may stand out. For the crazy Victorians, you have the image of one Matthew Arnold or Tennyson or Elizabeth Barrett and Mr Browning in your head. 20th Century English literature is best represented in Eliot, Yeats, Conrad or Orwell.

Now, imagine those "sexy" creatures in Avatar are trying to get a grip on your time as represented in your 21st century literature and your job is too give them one sample overview. Which authour would you choose? Which author/text of your time will be representative of your contemporary literary culture? Write an essay introducing that test for the future Avatar generation.

Edit: I have to clarify this? I liked this. I got to write about whatever I wanted and I didn't have to look anything up. It's a really loose, fun prompt, and it was just a half hour writing assignment. Also, I like Avatar.
