(no subject)
Jul. 21st, 2006 01:25 amThis entry may be entirely pointless since I can only think of two people on my friends list who've read this book, but whatever. For some insane reason tonight I felt compelled to go check IMDb on the progress of the movie adaptation of The Time-Traveler's Wife. Apparently half the internet must be insane, because most of the posters there recommended that Adrien Brody play Henry. At least the Depp fangirls have retreated finally, since last time I looked at the IMDb boards on this subject, everyone was insisting that Johnny Depp play Henry. (Because, of course, Johnny Depp must play every role ever. I love me some Depp, but come on, people, he can't be perfect for every role.)
At any rate, my personal opinion is more along the lines of: come on, people! Henry deTamble! Right there! Do you not see? The problem arises when I start considering someone to play Clare. I have a specific mental picture of Clare, and as much as I love her, Kate Winslet is not My Clare. Neither is Alicia Witt or Lauren Ambrose. It's about the same problem I had picturing a Lily Evans. No one made a suggestion for actress that really rang true. The only actress I can think of that's close enough to be able to fit my thoughts of Clare might be Amy Adams. A lot of people over there are desperately pushing for Rachel McAdams for Clare, too, but as much as I love Rachel McAdams and as much as I want another of her movies to come out now (Right now! NOW!), I can't see her as Clare, even with her Notebook-era hair.
On the subject of movie adaptations of books, I just read The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber this summer and went over to IMDb to check movie adaptation news. Bryce Dallas Howard or Keira Knightley (for the skinny) all the way, people! What is this talk of Kirsten Dunst? Bryce Dallas Howard was how I pictured Sugar, but I can really see Keira for the skinny description and also the insane murderous story. I like the crazybook. It's a shame Sugar switched to a different kind of crazy in the latter half of the novel.
