When I was in yearbook today, working on the school's computer, I started looking up Celtic mythology for a novel project [livejournal.com profile] lindi_of_rohan, [livejournal.com profile] beckyincharge and I are working on. Specifically, I did a search for the Sidhe. On the third page, I finally found a site that wasn't "OMG LOOKIT MEEEE I'M A FAIRY NAMED SWEET MOONSONG!" with little animated sparkles. I clicked and got...

This makes me sick. "Non-Traditional Religions." How can they even THINK of censoring information on things like that? I checked some other commonly maligned or uncommon things. Anything mentioning Wicca is blocked. Anything mentioning the word occult. The main page for Scientology is blocked. I feel so disgusted. Satanism I can understand blocking, but those things? How are those dangerous? What would happen to people if they WEREN'T allowed access to information on those three items? Wicca is a perfectly viable religion that is NOT Satanism, you ignorant FUCKS, the occult isn't something anyone should be censored from and HOW CAN ANYONE THINK BLOCKING SCIENTOLOGY IS A GOOD IDEA?!

I hate the school board and I hate the closed-minded people on it that picked what should be blocked. Frankly, web filters make me queasy in the first place.

I just don't understand how they can classify "Non-Traditional." It's still prejudice, plain and simple. There's still a fear of what people haven't bothered to completely understand. Just...it even blocked a site ReligousTolerance.Org when I tried to click its link to the entry on Wicca. Here it is, if you want to read it.

*sigh*

In other news, my dad got a letter from the Kerry campaign asking for money. John, John, dear, ellipses are not to be used that much. And you may have something wrong with your keyboard. It's called "sticky caps lock." You're welcome.

Sooo, I just spent an hour and a half out of the house. First, I drove to the library, rechecked out all my books for the research paper in addition to checking out five books on fairies and folklore. I'll bring in the huge encyclopedia one for Molly and Becky to look over tomorrow. Then, I went to Wal-Mart to buy myself a nice pen. Why, I do not know, since I just got a nice new metal pen. It likes me and glows. But somehow I got it into my head that I wanted a new one. Within the range of $5, since that's all I had in my wallet. (When I was in there, I heard some solemn little kid on a firefighter ad going, "My dad's a hero. He goes into places other people try to leave." Damn, that's all it takes? I'm going into Wal-Mart and here are all these people in the line trying to leave! I'm a hero!)

Ended up sneering at all the Wal-Mart pens (Hmph! Going to Books-A-Million next time.) and buying a pack of Andes mint chocolates and a Hershey bar. Hello, Remus.

And now I'll go eat a potato.

EDIT: WHERE ARE MY ANGEL DVDS, DAMMIT? I ordered Season One almost two weeks ago! GIVE THEM TO ME, AMAZON!
