Most people don't have a problem with original characters as long as it's done tastefully, and so it's not so much a "LOOK AT ME, I'M IN A STORY!"

As long as you know the characters and are confident in the way you write them, it's not hard to keep in character.

It's so hard to keep from screaming at the Sues, but you really can't if you've done stuff like that. It did take me a bit more time in the fandom to figure out what was something appropriate to post, but I did. I think something people need a bit more of is temerity. It's one of those things that's rapidly disappearing in this whole "self-esteem" and "I am my own person that can do whatever the hell I want!" and "I have confidence!" era. You tend to forget that although confidence is good, so is appropriate, you know? And just a bit of poking around in the fandom corners and file cabinets would answer a lot of questions. They just need to LOOK first before leaping in holding their heart out going "AREN'T MY FANTASIES GOOD!"

LOOK FIRST OR YOU BE PANCAKE! DON'T YOU REMEMBER WHAT YOUR MOTHER SAID ABOUT CROSSING THE STREET INTO A FANDOM?!
