GIP!

Lionel and Eileen from my still-untitled novel! I'm very proud of it. I used my fifteen-minute writer's block to make the shiny and abused gradients in the making. :)

Aha! I just barely caught myself! I almost made a heinous writing mistake.

Lionel glanced at the woods again. The trees there were unbelievably tall, like pillars of the old world rising from the ground, where they extended fathoms beyond to the other side of the world.

That was what I almost put.

Lionel glanced at the woods again. The trees there were unbelievably tall, like pillars of the old world rising from the ground, where they extended fathoms beyond into the crust of soil to hell beneath.

That is what I changed it to.

DUH! They thought the world was flat then!

Dear Novel,

Why won't you work? Why are you boring? Why does the prospect of drinking cold, bitter cocoa sound better than the idea of writing you? Why are you turning into slash? Why can't I make my characters leave this fucking town? Why can't they fight? Why are you so damn boring? Where did I go wrong in my parenting of you, novel? You were such a quiet child, such a nice baby, and now you're a terror. You won't listen to me, you won't let me interact with you, all you want to do is sit around and stew in your homoerotic subtext with a character that I never intended to like in the first place.

Where did your subplots go? Where was my sex and intrigue? Now you just want to wander around hopelessly! Even the history in you is boring me! I have two weeks to finish you, novel, and I haven't even gotten you back to Northumberland! WHAT DID I DO WRONG, NOVEL? I STILL LOVE YOU! WHY WON'T YOU LOVE ME?!

Desperately,
Kit

So, how lame is it that I'm putting HoYay in my novel without even realizing it? Seriously. Was writing and suddenly looked at my words and there HoYay was!

"I suppose," sighed the King. "Take him to the blacksmith and tell him the king commands that this boy receive the best armor he has." Pulling a ring from his finger, he held it out carelessly. "Take this ring to the man." When Sir Edmund took a step forward, Edward shook his head firmly. "Not you. Your boy."

Lionel stepped forward, feeling his knees tremble as he found himself standing before the King of England, chosen by God to lead. Looking down, not daring to meet his eyes. Lionel reached out, quavering, to take the ring. "Your Majesty," he murmured, looking up without even realizing it, locking eyes with Edward. He blinked in shock as Edward's cold blue eyes held his steadily. Unwavering. The hard

"Yes," said Edward firmly. "You'll make a fine knight."

Or maybe I'm just on a little bit of crack.

But when my mental picture of Edward III is this and Lionel is this...It'd be pretty. Just saying.

I went home sick today after fourth period. I felt like shit. Still kinda do, but not having to run around and be in school is helping it. I'm hoping this R&R will make it go away by tomorrow. It's so annoying having a runny nose one second and then having it be painfully dry the next, in addiction to having to always be scarfing down Ricola cough drops. Fabu.

So I was sitting here (after watching BtVS Tabula Rasa, shhh, don't tell!) with the laptop on my lap and my kitty curled up by my leg, playing my Peer Gynt mp3 because she likes it, and I started thinking about stories. Specifically, my stories. I've got several bouncing around here in my head, and they just keep popping up, wiggling their little plotbunny noses at me and making fun. "Ha ha, you can't write me until you finish your senior project novel! Ha ha!"

The icon I'm using now is for a novel that's been in the works since last Christmas called The Running Brand. It's set in the 1870s in New Mexico, and it's about a cattle war between two ranchers. The main character is Jack Buckner, the archetypal lone cowboy. The novel's all about conflict, growing up and some good old Western action. The girl in the icon kissing Jack is Anna. Major characters not pictured there are Asher, the inept cowboy who can't shoot worth a damn, and Wolf and Jordan (alias Professor), who will get to share some marvelous HoYay moments.

Right now I'm working on this still untitled historical about the siege of Berwick in 1333. Blurb is as follows: In 1332, while hunting down Scottish nationalists, young squire Lionel comes upon a woman living in the woods of Northumberland. She drives him away and threatens his life. A year later, Lionel, now a knight, returns with King Edward III and Edward Balliol to Berwick-on-Tweed to return Balliol to the Scottish throne and restore peace. As the siege begins, Lionel again returns to the woods that will soon be explored for materials with which to build trebuchets to keep the woman - Eileen - from being discovered. As the stakes rise and the danger increases for both sides, Eileen must reconcile her childhood loathing of knights to help Lionel see beyond his idealism before the petulant and volatile young king destroys any chance of peace between the two countries.

Hmph. Yes. Well, I have block, as you can well imagine.

I've also got a few other plots churning around in my head. I want to write a good fantasy story about people falling back in time and finding their way around a new world and having to deal with strange magic that's not in the history books and coming to terms with the fact that although they annoy the hell out of each other, they have to stick together. I want to write a fairy tale that, like all good fairy tales, starts with a prince in a castle. I want the beast to be a regular person with a terrible, terrible temper.

But I can't write all that right now, because I have to finish my thoroughly annoying historical first.

All right, I give up. HELP. There are major problems to writing a historical novel.

Edward Balliol. Anything would be helpful. I know what he does, but no one seems to have any theories on what kind of person he was.

If anyone has a big fat family tree of the Plantagenets, I think I'd love you.

Really, any information about the 1330s in Britain would be really helpful, no matter how inane.

My printer obviously wants me to go insane or stop working on NaNo. Whenever I try to print out Harry Potter fanfiction my progress, it pretends to run out of paper (and does this every two pages) and makes this terrible "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" sound reminiscent of, oh, say, some familiar sound like nails raking down a chalkboard. SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. And yet, it has paper. But it lies and is lazy. "Awww, no, man, I ain't reachin' that far to git that paper! That sucker's in the right place in the load tray! I want that damn paper shoved down my gullet, woman! SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

WHY DOES IT SAY PAPER JAM WHEN THERE IS NO PAPER JAM?!

I feel very WAAAHHHH. I don't know why, but I do. I'm gonna see if I can stay up late to write research paper/NaNo.

Okay, so, I'm going to bed now. Tomorrow I may get up with my alarm and write before dragging myself to school in the bare minimum and HOLY SHIT I NEED TO READ CANTERBURY TALES I'M GOING TO DIE.
